UGC pays more per view than clipping, by about 50%. In our directory, campaigns asking for original UGC post a median CPM of $1.50; clip-editing campaigns sit at $1.00. But that gap is not free money: UGC is a different, heavier job. This article defines both clearly (they get blurred constantly), shows the data and real campaigns of each kind, explains why UGC earns the premium, and tells you where each kind of work actually lives.

First, the definitions (they get blurred)

Clipping is editing content that already exists. You take a podcast, a livestream, or a brand's own videos, cut the best moments into short vertical clips, and post them. You are an editor, not the original creator, and you rarely appear on camera.

UGC (user-generated content) is filming original content yourself. You shoot the video, often on camera or as a product demo, in the authentic creator style brands use as ads. You are the creator, not just the editor. Both models pay you per view; the work in front of you is completely different.

The data: UGC vs clipping CPM

Content typeMedian CPM (USD)Campaigns
UGC$1.50125
Clipping$1.00417
Music edits$1.0044
Logo / overlay$0.554

UGC sits 50% above clipping at the median. But look at the count: clipping has more than three times the campaigns. That is the trade in one line: UGC pays a higher rate on a smaller pool of work, clipping pays less on far more of it. Logo and overlay jobs (slapping a brand mark on existing footage) pay the least, which fits, since they ask the least.

What each looks like (real live campaigns)

So you can tell them apart at a glance, here are real campaigns live in our directory right now. Notice how the titles themselves give the job away.

Why UGC earns the premium

One honest correction, though. The premium is per view, not per hour. A UGC video takes far longer to shoot than a clip takes to cut, so on an hourly basis the 50% gap shrinks and can even flip. UGC pays more per view because it costs you more to make.

Where each kind of work lives

The two are not spread evenly. UGC concentrates on Content Rewards, which carries by far the biggest UGC pool we track (roughly one campaign in four). Clipping is everywhere, and the crypto-paying platforms (reach.cat, Promote.fun, Clipur, Yeez) are almost entirely clip edits. So if you do UGC, Content Rewards is effectively your market; if you clip, the whole directory is open to you.

FAQ

Is UGC harder than clipping?

Generally, yes. Clipping is editing footage that already exists; UGC is filming original content, usually on camera. Different skill, higher production bar, which is exactly why it pays a premium per view.

Does UGC really pay more?

At the median, yes: $1.50 versus $1.00 per thousand views. Per hour it is closer, because a UGC video takes longer to produce than a clip takes to cut. If you are fast on camera, the premium is real money; if you are not, the math is tighter.

Which platforms have UGC campaigns?

Content Rewards is the main UGC market by volume. The crypto-paying platforms are clipping-first and carry almost no UGC, so a UGC creator will not find much there. Klippify and the smaller platforms sit in between.

Can I do both?

Many clippers do. Clip for volume and steady output, take UGC campaigns when you have the time to film and want the higher rate. They use different skills but the same accounts and the same directory.

What about music or logo campaigns?

Music edits pay like clipping ($1.00 median). Logo and overlay jobs pay the least ($0.55) because they ask the least: you are branding existing footage, not creating anything.

UGC pays more per view. Clipping pays more per hour, usually.

Pick on your skills and your time, not on the headline rate. If you can film, UGC's premium is real and it lives mostly on Content Rewards. If you would rather edit, clipping has three times the campaigns and a lower barrier to entry. Either way, browse what is live and match the work to what you are actually good at.
